After leaked images of South Korea's rival to the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger were seen earlier this week, SsangYong's dual-cab ute has been officially revealed with an update for 2024, alongside a refreshed Rexton SUV with which it shares a platform.

With the seven-seat Rexton SUV called the KG Mobility Rexton New Arena in South Korea, where the Musso ute is called the Rexton Sport Khan, expect to see naming here in Australia remain fairly familiar.

While SsangYong has officially rebranded to KG Mobility for its new owners internationally, the company's local arm is yet to make the switch. It's more than likely Australia will see the models launch as the SsangYong Musso and Rexton.

SsangYong Australia spokesperson told CarsGuide that the details for the updated RHD Musso and Rexton pair for Australia haven't been finalised but that the company is planning for an estimated release in Q4 this year.

Previously, CarsGuide was also informed by the brand's local arm that the updated engine being used for the Musso and Rexton in South Korea - a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder making 149kW of power and 441Nm of torque - wouldn't make it to Australia as the newer version of the engine uses diesel exhaust fluid which requires an extra tank, taking away space for a full-sized spare wheel.

To retain the important-in-Oz spare, the Musso here remains a 133kW and 400Nm ute, though it's not clear if the update later this year will address this.

KG Mobility's South Korean website shows both models with relatively padded-out safety features lists, including elements like collision avoidance and rear cross-traffic alert in the ute, and nine airbags in the SUV.

Stay tuned for more information expected to be confirmed upon the timing for a local launch in Australia, including grades and features for the local variants.
