The SQ5 is the pinnacle of the mid-size SUV range, offering performance thrills thanks to the return of its turbocharged petrol V6 engine.
Producing 270kW/550Nm, the SQ5 is the most powerful version of the Q5, and although it carries over its 3.0-litre V6 from the previous-generation car, it is now hybrid assisted thanks to an 18kW/230Nm electric motor in the seven-speed automatic transmission.
This helps it to achieve a lower fuel consumption of 7.6L/100km, while also being able to sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The top-spec SQ5, which costs $122,400 before on-roads is also the only version with air suspension optionally equipped for an extra $3800.
Standard equipment includes 21-inch alloy wheels, aluminium exterior highlights, acoustic front glass, premium leather interior trim, front seat ventilation and message functions, a head-up display, a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and improved outputs from its USB-C connectors.
This adds to the existing suite of matrix LED headlights, an 11.9-inch digital dash, 14.5-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, online connectivity with built-in navigation, leather interior trim with brushed aluminium inlays, a wireless phone charger, 360-degree parking camera, power adjust and heated front seats, tri-zone climate, as well as keyless entry and push-start ignition.
Boot space is 520 litres in all SQ5 variants, which expands to 1473L with the second row down.
The Q5 range is covered by a five-year and unlimited kilometre warranty, while servicing is most affordable when five years are purchased up front for $3560 ($712 per year) for V6 variants. Servicing is required once every 12 months or 15,000km.
