Land Rover Range Rover Sport

The Range Rover Sport was the first genuine luxury SUV to ever hit the market, and after decades of success, the company launched a smaller, lighter and cheaper version of the venerable Rangie.

Called the Range Rover Sport, it was an instant hit, and is now offered in versions ranging from $108,134 base model Ingenium diesels in the Range Rover Sport SI4 SE (221KW) to fire-breathing supercharged petrol V8s in the $275,927 Range Rover Sport V8 S/C SVR Carbon Edtn (423KW). Because it's a Land Rover at heart, the large five door SUV is still imbued with the same go-anywhere capability and technology of its bigger brother. It can also be optioned with seven seats amongst its huge add-on list.

Range Rover Sport Q&As

Check out real-world situations relating to the Range Rover Sport here, particularly what our experts have to say about them.

  • Is the Range Rover Sport 2002 expensive to maintain?

Not if you use a mechanic who knows their way around a Range Rover. There are mechanics that specialise in them and they know them best.

  • Range Rover Sport 2014: Transmission replacement

First, talk to JLR directly, but at best they would probably only cover part of the cost of repairs as the vehicle is not five years old and has done 175,000 km. You could also appeal to Allianz, given that there is a history of problems with the transmission during the warranty period.

  • Range Rover Sport, Touareg or Grand Cherokee?

You could go for a Mercedes-Benz GLC with similar features and save money. My choice — perhaps surprisingly — is the Jeep. Just make sure you find a good dealer.

  • Changing a Range Rover Sport camshaft rear seal?

Land Rover spokesman James Scrimshaw has your answer: "If Mr Walford took his 2011 Range Rover Sport to an authorised Land Rover dealer, they have access to the special tools that are required to remove and replace the rear camshaft seal. The suggested time allocated for this work is approximately 3.5 hours and the body would not need to be removed from the vehicle".
