Holden Berlina fuel reading
Answered by Graham Smith · 27 Apr 2011

It’s hard to say in absolute terms how accurate it is, but it is the most accurate indicator we have, given that the information comes directly from the injection system itself, and actually measures the fuel going into the engine. The claimed fuel consumption for the V6 VY Berlina was 6.6 on the highway and 11.00 around town, with an average of 8.2 L/100 km, which makes me think your car is about right.

PBR slotted discs and pads fitted to Commodore
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 06 May 2010

Consulting a brake specialist, like Howard Reynolds at Race Brakes, is always worth doing. Car makers fit components to meet certain performance criteria, like stopping distance, fade resistance, and longevity, and it's possible to improve on some aspects by going to other, or better discs and pads.

Holden Commodore: Power steering leak
Answered by CarsGuide team · 12 May 2010

You could, but I wouldn’t as I think it would be a waste of time. Even though you have done only a few kays, the car is six years old.

Ask Smithy Xtra LPG Commodore running rough
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 17 May 2011

There have been thousands of Commodores converted to LPG without any problems, so there’s no reason why yours shouldn’t also run well on gas. Take it back to the installer; it’s his responsibility to get it running properly. If you don’t have success doing that contact the manufacturer of the system he’s fitted to your car and ask for their help in resolving the problem. If you didn’t want to go back to the installer find another one who works with the same system and go to them.

Ask Smithy Xtra groaning Commodore
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 30 Aug 2010

It’s not always easy to diagnose a problem, which is probably why the mechanics haven’t been very specific with their advice. If you’re not happy with the advice you have received take it somewhere else. You could perhaps try a steering or suspension specialist who should be able to tell you if it’s the steering or the suspension.

Holden Commodore 2003: Engine troubles
Answered by Graham Smith · 30 May 2011

There are a number of things that could be causing the problem; you really need to get it to a mechanic the next time it happens. It could be the ignition coils, the crank angle sensor, the fuel pump or blocked injectors.

Think seriously about LPG conversion
Answered by Graham Smith · 28 Apr 2011

It's unfortunate that you've had a bad experience with LPG, as your car is one that converts well and thousands of motorists have done it. But it is worthwhile talking to a number of converters and owners who have made the switch to get their first hand experience of any troubles they might have had.

Holden Commodore 2003: Radiator leak
Answered by Graham Smith · 16 Sep 2010

It sounds like the engine is overheating and you should have it checked to determine the cause. If it is overheating be careful about driving it as you could de even more damage. Any mechanic could check it for you, it's not necessary to take it back to the place you bought it, unless of course you have some form of warranty and want them to cover the cost of the repair. You could trade it in if that's what you want, but dealers might be reluctant to accept it if it has a problem. The best course of action would be to find out what's causing the problem and have it repaired.

VY Holden makes noise at diff
Answered by Graham Smith · 22 Mar 2012

It could be the diff itself or the diff mounts. Check the mounts first, if they check out ok, consult a diff specialist.

Ask Smithy Xtra non-switch to LPG
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 12 Oct 2010

It sounds like it’s not getting LPG when you attempt to switch over, and that could be something as simple as a power supply problem such as a lead that’s come away from its connection.
