Holden Commodore: Power steering leak

The power steering rack on my VY Series 2 Commodore is leaking and needs replacing. I realize that it is out of warranty, but it has only done 46,000 km and I have had it serviced by my dealer until the warranty ran out. My mechanic told me he has never seen this problem with so low km. I rang the dealer and was told it was too far out of warranty to make a claim, and while he said I could phone Holden, it was ultimately the dealer?s decision and he said I had no hope. Should I pursue the matter further?
