Check out real-world situations relating to the Holden Astra 1999 here, particularly what our experts have to say about them.
Holden Astra 1999: How often should the cam belt be changed?
It would be wise to change the belt given that it’s five years since it was last changed. The consequences of it breaking are too dire to risk. Should it break it is most likely to result in extensive and expensive internal damage to the engine.Show more
Ask Smithy Xtra Ethanol in Berlina or Excel
You could use E10 ethanol blend fuel in both of your cars; you could also use regular 91 in them if you wanted.Show more
Holden Astra 1999: Timing belt issues
I BELIEVE it was in 2001 or so. Holden dealers were notified of the change with an instruction to change the belt when the cars came in for their 60,000km service, so some owners might not know it was done. Similarly, if someone other than a Holden dealer was servicing a car the change might not have been made. It's a warning to Astra buyers to check for belt changes before they drive away. A belt failure is expensive.Show more
Holden Astra 1999: Timing belt broke
THIS problem is not uncommon with the Astra. Holden actually changed the service interval for the belt from 120,000km to 60,000km, so you have a strong claim. Taking your car to an Ultratune outlet complicates the issue a little, but doesn't alter the fact that the belt failed. Holden rightly wants to see the mechanic's report and the belt. I'm sure if you follow its recommendation you will have a satisfactory outcome.Show more
