The GAC Aion V first arrived in 2020 as part of GAC’s push into the electric SUV market. It was one of the brand’s first dedicated EVs under the Aion sub-brand, sitting in the mid-size SUV segment with a focus on range, space and affordability. In China, it quickly became a core model in the Aion lineup, sold alongside the smaller Aion Y and larger Aion LX.
A major update in 2023 brought new styling, improved battery technology and the introduction of Aion’s own electric platform. Some overseas markets also saw the model badged as the GAC V Plus, helping GAC expand its global footprint. The upgrades positioned the Aion V as a more refined and efficient EV aimed at mainstream buyers.
The current GAC Aion V builds on that groundwork with a new design, upgraded tech and stronger performance claims. It now competes directly with mid-size EV SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BYD Sealion 7.
Colours available for the GAC Aion V include Arctic White, Galaxy Blue, Galaxy Blue with contrast white roof, Holographic Silver, Night Shadow Black, Sea Fluorescent Gray, Wilderness Sand.
All GAC Aion V grades are well equipped and there isn’t a whole lot separating the Premium and Luxury grades.
Highlights include:
The GAC Aion V has a very roomy cabin thanks to the vehicle's boxy dimensions.
It has a fairly plain cabin with little to no buttons or dials on the dash, with all car functions controlled through a large touchscreen.
The cabin materials feel a little bit cheap, but this isn't an expensive car.
There are lots of storage options inside, including a fridge in the centre console.
The GAC Aion V uses a single electric motor to make 150kW and 210Nm, which drives the front wheels.

The GAC Aion V is a five-seat SUV, with acres of room for back-seat passengers and front-row occupants.
The Luxury version has a mix of synthetic and real leather upholstery, while the Premium grade just has the fake stuff.
Front-row seats are power adjustable, have a memory function and are heated and ventilated.
Rear seats can recline a decent amount and there are ISOFIX anchor points and three seat back anchors.
The GAC Aion V has a 427-litre boot that expands to 978 litres with the rear seats folded down. This is below average for a vehicle this size.
There is no spare tyre, just a tyre repair kit.

GAC does not provide a 0-100km/h time for the Aion V. It wouldn't be record setting, but it has decent acceleration for a family SUV. It has a top speed of 160km/h.
The GAC Aion V has a WLTP verified driving range of up to 510km from its circa-75kWh LFP battery, with a combined consumption rate of 16.7kWh/100km.
