The GAC Aion V first arrived in 2020 as part of GAC’s push into the electric SUV market. It was one of the brand’s first dedicated EVs under the Aion sub-brand, sitting in the mid-size SUV segment with a focus on range, space and affordability. In China, it quickly became a core model in the Aion lineup, sold alongside the smaller Aion Y and larger Aion LX.
A major update in 2023 brought new styling, improved battery technology and the introduction of Aion’s own electric platform. Some overseas markets also saw the model badged as the GAC V Plus, helping GAC expand its global footprint. The upgrades positioned the Aion V as a more refined and efficient EV aimed at mainstream buyers.
The current GAC Aion V builds on that groundwork with a new design, upgraded tech and stronger performance claims. It now competes directly with mid-size EV SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BYD Sealion 7.

The GAC Aion V has a generous 427-litre boot, with multiple floor heights available that you can adjust.
GAC doesn’t claim a 0-100km/h time, but it wouldn’t be quick, at least not in EV terms. It’s an adequate powertrain for the job at hand, but it won’t blow your socks off with its performance and will take more than eight seconds to run 0-100km/h. Top speed is around 160km/h.
The battery in the GAC Aion V is a 75.2kWh lithium-phosphate type, which provides a claimed range of 510km on the WLTP cycle.
