The new Cupra Terramar range kicks off with the S variant of the five-seat, mid-sized SUV, which is priced at $58,490, drive-away.
Interestingly, though, despite being the entry-level version, the S is the only Terramar variant (for now) with a hybrid powertrain. As it is, it’s a mild-hybrid with a 48-volt alternator acting as the starter motor and harvester of some braking energy. Transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch auto with drive going exclusively to the front wheels.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque and Cupra claims a combined cycle (urban/extra-urban) fuel economy figure of 5.7 litres per 100km on 95 octane fuel.
Standard equipment includes a powered tailgate with a kick sensor, cloth trim, 18 inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, powered and heated front seats with a memory function, a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, dual info-screens, full wireless connectivity, ambient lighting and wireless phone charging.
Safety gear includes a full suite of driver assistance aids including blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert and tyre pressure monitoring. The Terramar S carries a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.
The Cupra carries a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty with roadside assistance and the option of three or five years' capped price servicing.
