Apprentice tradies can start applying for the Victorian State Government's half-price car registration from next week when the first round of renewal notices are issued.
Announced as a 2014 election promise, the registration scheme aims to make it easier for apprentices on low wages to invest in training and tools.
Bricklayers, carpenters, joiners, electricians and plumbers are among those eligible if their employer can verify that the use of their vehicle is an essential part of their work.
From January 1, 2016, eligible apprentices paying standard registration on a light vehicle in the metro area will save $385.70 per year and apprentices in regional Victoria will save $330.20.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnell said: "We're putting more money back in the pockets of apprentices so they can get the skills they need for their future career."
