The Tesla Model Y has a monster month in September 2025.
Electric Vehicle Council data has revealed that Tesla sold 3927 Model Ys.
September sales data for other vehicles are yet to be released, but the Model Y is likely to have been one of the best selling cars for this period.Ā
Tesla has sold 17,237 Model Ys so far in 2025, which is more than this time last year (16,697).Ā
The Model Y is priced from $58,900 for the rear-wheel drive single motor, but also has all-wheel drive dual motor variants.Ā
It got a revamp earlier in 2025, with the Performance all-wheel drive variant that can achieve 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds due later this year.
The sales boost coincides with the announcement of full self-driving (supervised) semi-autonomous driving in Australia on some Teslas. This feature is available on the Model Y and Model 3 if the Hardware 4 (HW4) camera system is installed.Ā

It also requires owners to have purchased the FSD (Supervised) package for $10,100, with a subscription option available soon at $149 for eligible vehicles.Ā
Tesla's FSD (Supervised) allows users to navigate all driving scenarios with their hands off the wheel. Tesla warns that users must be paying attention to the road ahead and be ready to take the steering wheel if needed as they are still required to be in control of the car, as the Supervised part of the name suggests.
While Teslaās Model Y had a successful month, Polestar ā the only other maker that reports sales figures to the EVC ā experienced a sales decline.Ā

Polestar sold 236 vehicles in September, but its 2 sedan and premium 3 SUV didn't fare so well. The Polestar 4 made up the majority of sales for the brand moving 151 units in the past month.
The Polestar 4 has been a bright spot for the EV brand with more than 1000 examples sold in Australia so far this year.Ā
The full sales figures of the rest of the brands on sale in Australia will be released tomorrow by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
