Toyota Supra 2020 warranty to outlast BMW Z4 twin

The Supra and premium-grade Z4 M40i run an identical BMW-produced rear-wheel drive powertrain.

Toyota Australia has confirmed it is supporting the new Supra performance coupe with a five year/unlimited kilometre warranty, extending to seven years with the brand’s ‘Service Advantage’ program that requires owners to carry out full log-book servicing for the first five years of ownership.

This stands in stark contrast to BMW’s three year/unlimited kilometre cover for the Z4 roadster, the German maker’s half of a joint development program that also produced the Supra.

The Supra and premium-grade Z4 M40i run an identical BMW-produced rear-wheel drive powertrain comprising a 3.0-litre single-turbo in-line six-cylinder engine, and eight-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota Australia vice-president of sales and marketing Sean Hanley told CarsGuide the company launched its five-year warranty policy (up from three years) in January of this year, and that the cover extends across all Toyota models.

Mr Hanley also noted Toyota’s capped price servicing program locks in an annual service cost of $385 per service for the Supra in the first five years of ownership.

Servicing for the Z4 is less predictable, determined by BMW’s ‘Condition Based’ regime, where the car reports on its service and maintenance requirements.
