BMW X5 2020 pricing and spec confirmed: Three new engines added to large SUV range

BMW Australia has added three new variants to its X5 large SUV line-up, doubling engine options and expanding the range to six grades.

Lowering the point of entry to $99,900 before on-road costs, the new xDrive25d is powered by a turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 170kW/450Nm.

With drive sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed torque-convertor automatic transmission, the zero to 100km/h run is dispatched in 7.5 seconds.

As for equipment, the new base X5 is fitted with 20-inch wheels, leatherette upholstery, surround-view monitor, head-up display, all-digital instrumentation, wireless smartphone charger, adaptive LED headlights, heated front seats and keyless entry.

Meanwhile, BMW’s plug-in hybrid xDrive45e is positioned at $129,900, which is underpinned by an updated electric motor and six-cylinder petrol engine combo for a total system output of 290kW/600Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in 5.6s.

Equipment includes adaptive air suspension, M Sport package, leather upholstery, sunroof and unique aluminium interior trim finish.

Finally, the petrol-powered $151,900 M50i shoehorns a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 under the bonnet for a 390kW/750Nm output and a 4.3s 0-100km/h sprint time.

Specification and pricing mirrors the existing M50d, with 22-inch wheels, M Performance exhaust, M Sport differential, M Sport brakes, M-tuned suspension, ‘LaserLight’ front lighting, soft-close doors, heated cup holder and metallic paint.

The xDrive25d, xDrive45e and M50i join the existing 195kW/620Nm xDrive30d ($117,900), 250kW/450Nm xDrive40i ($120,900) and 294kW/760Nm M50d ($151,900).

The Bavarian brand has also released a new factory-designed and fitted towing system across its X5 large SUV line-up, costing $2500 and with a 2700-3500kg capacity depending on engine.
