Benz' baby: Australian pricing for updated 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA small SUV confirmed, but is it cheaper than BMW X1 and Audi Q3?

The updated GLA was first shown globally in March, and launches here this week.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed local pricing for the facelifted version of its GLA small SUV, which launches locally today from $68,900 before on-road costs.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA facelift was announced in March, with headline changes to the small SUV including small styling tweaks and a tech update for the interior.

Also vital to the 2024 model is the standardisation of mild-hybrid drivetrains across the range, with all models now electrified in some manner.

The entry-level GLA200, which wears the aforementioned $68,900 price tag, has a 120kW/270Nm version of the 1.3-litre turbocharged engine shared with other Mercedes entry models, with a 48-volt electrical system for the belt-driven starter generator.

Stepping up a grade lands you a GLA250 4Matic for $78,900, with a more powerful 165kW/350Nm version of the same engine.

Both these variants come standard with a 7.0-inch and 10.25-inch twin-screen display running Mercedes-Benz MBUX, a panoramic sunroof, metallic paint, electric front seats, a surround-view parking camera, and two-zone climate control.

The GLA250 4Matic wears a price tag of ,900.

An AMG-tuned variant, the Mercedes-AMG GLA35 4Matic, is the top of the range at $96,900 with a powerful ‘M139’ turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine making 225kW and 400Nm.

It also includes a Burmester surround sound system - optional in the lesser grades - a head-up display and driver assistance pack, plus AMG-specific styling and the ‘Night Package’.

A ‘Plus Package’ is available for the GLA200 and 250 for $3770, which adds the Driving Assistance Package, Burmester sound system, illuminated door sills, head-up display, ‘Multibeam LED’ lights and MBUX Interior Assist.

A $3500 Aerodynamics Package can be added to the AMG GLA35, which includes an AMG rear spoiler, larger front splitter, aero ‘flics’ and a gloss black diffuser.

The GLA small SUV is on sale now in Australia.
