2023 Jaguar F-Pace updated with new 400 Sport grade to better battle Porsche Macan, Audi SQ5, BMW X3 M40i and Mercedes-AMG GLC 43

Jaguar's F-Pace range has been expanded with a new 400 Sport grade.

Jaguar has added a new grade to its updated F-Pace range, with the F-Pace 400 Sport entering the family as something of a rival to other mid-tier European performance SUVs.

Largely a styling and specification exercise, the 400 Sport totes familiar mechanicals, with Jaguar’s Ingenium inline-six turbo sending power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic

Differentiating it from other six-cylinder F-Paces will be gloss black 21-inch wheels, gloss black roof rails, privacy glass, and other blacked-out exterior trim details. On the inside, a set of Performance seats upholstered in Windsor leather, a black suede headlining, satin-finish ash wood trim and metal pedals add to the 400 Sport’s cabin ambience.

Like the existing P400 variants in the F-Pace range, a twincharged 3.0-litre inline six marries a turbocharger with an electrically-powered supercharger to help it generate 294kW (or 400 metric horsepower, hence the nomenclature) of lag-free power, with 550Nm of torque. At full tilt, the F-Pace 400 Sport can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a maximum speed of 250km/h.

That level of performance puts the 400 Sport a touch below the Mercedes-AMG GLC43, which can hit triple-digit speeds in 4.9 seconds, and the diesel-powered Audi SQ5 (0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds). Pricing is yet to be announced for the P400 Sport, but with its German rivals priced in the $110-120K bracket, we’d expect Jaguar’s offering to lob somewhere within that window – or perhaps even slightly below it, considering the current F-Pace P400 R-Dynamic SE is priced at $102,299 and offers the same mechanical package.

As with other variants within the F-Pace lineup, the 400 Sport will feature Amazon Alexa integration, which enables natural-voice controls for a range of multimedia functions like navigation, music, audiobooks and telephony, plus the ability to interface with other Alexa-enabled devices used by the owner such as smart home automation. The Alexa feature comes fully integrated with the F-Pace’s Pivi Pro multimedia suite.

Besides the 400 Sport, the rest of the 2023 Jaguar F-Pace range will include R-Dynamic S, SE and HSE variants, with 184kW/365Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol and 221kW/650Nm 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel options alongside the aforementioned Ingenium inline six.

First deliveries of the updated 2023 Jaguar F-Pace range will begin in late Q3, with pricing to be announced before June. Updates to the V8-powered SVR have yet to be confirmed for 2023.
