    What to consider for a family car?

    My wife and I are going to have twins, which has forced us to reassess our expectations for our next car. We have owned small and medium sized cars in the past, but never a 4WD, or a 7-seater. Some options (like the Toyota Kluger) are ruled out at this point because driving a genuinely large car worries my wife, however, I still think that 7 seats will be convenient at times. We have up to $50,000 to spend, which means there are many options on the table, but few with all the trimmings. I personally like the reviews and look of the Skoda Kodiaq, but my wife likes the Mitsubishi Outlander Exceed because it feels and looks a little smaller, and we will probably take a Mazda CX-9 for a test drive at some point, although like the Kluger, the CX-9 looks massive to me. Given our move from small cars to big ones, things like reverse parking cameras, blind-spot warnings, and active cruise control are a big help. All these cars seem to come with a range of safety features too, which is reassuring given we will soon be hauling a precious cargo or two. Any advice regarding things you think I should look out for in this market, or reconsider would be greatly appreciated.

    You’ve covered some important things, like reversing cameras. All of the current cars come with ISOFIX baby seat mounting points, which are also must-have items when you’ve got kids to transport. It probably comes down to what your wife is comfortable driving, so I would suggest test-driving a number of different cars before making your decision.
