MG has ripped the covers off its flagship MG4 electric car, dubbed XPower, that is under consideration for Australia.
With a dual-electric motor set-up, the XPower punches out a sizeable 320kW and “up to” 600Nm according to the Chinese brand, enabling a 0-100km/h run in just 3.8 seconds.
This makes it quicker than a Tesla Model 3 Long Range, which needs 4.4s to hit the landmark time, but slightly slower than the Performance grade EV that can dispatch the run in 3.3s with a one-foot rollout.

And for context, the cream of the hot hatch crop including the Honda Civic Type R, Toyota GR Corolla and Mercedes-AMG A45 S are all slower than or match the MG4 XPower’s time, needing 5.4s, 5.2s and 3.8s respectively.
MG is yet to detail battery and driving range for the XPower however, but the current top-spec Essence makes use of a 77kWh battery for a 530km driving range.
Expect that with dual-motors and a performance bent, the XPower won’t be as long-legged as the Essence.
Other performance enhancements include a locking electronic differential, torque vectoring and a revised suspension set-up with stiffer anti-roll bars.

Other details confirmed for the UK market include standard 18-inch wheels, orange-painted brake callipers and a two-tone exterior design.
In the UK, the MG4 XPower retails for £36,495, or the equivalent of about $69,342 – which would make it significantly pricier than the rest of the local MG4 line-up that tops out at $55,990 before on-road costs.
MG Australia has said in the past it is studying the potential for the XPower flagship for the local market.
