Total recall: More than 25,000 Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs recalled for fault in reversing camera system

Almost all current generation Outlanders are affected by the recall.

The current-gen Mitsubishi Outlander is subject to a huge recall, with the medium SUV’s reversing camera reportedly at risk of a dangerous fault.

A total of 25,653 Mitsubishi Outlanders with model years from 2021 onwards - or almost every current-generation Outlander, is being recalled as its reversing camera could fail to correctly display a continuous image from behind the car.

The recall issued by Mitsubishi and the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure and Transport says that, “due to a software issue, the rear-view camera image may be temporarily disrupted when reversing”.

“If the rear-view camera display does not continually display the rear-view image when reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle.”

Mitsubishi will contact owners of affected vehicles, “advising them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mitsubishi Motors Dealership to have the software updated, free of charge”.

Owners can check their own car for the recall at Mitsubishi’s website with their VIN, or find it in the list published by the government’s Vehicle Recalls website.
