The Skoda Vision RS has been revealed ahead of its on-stand debut at the Paris motor show next week, with the Czech brand's performance-focused concept sporting an eco-friendly interior and a punchy hybrid powertrain.

We've seen vague sketch after vague sketch of the Vision RS, but Skoda is at last dropping some detail on us, including the specification details of its 1.5-litre TSI engine and electric motor, good for a combined 180kW.

That's enough, Skoda says, for a sprint to 100km/h of 7.1secs - and a climb from 80km/h to 120km/h in 8.9seconds - all while emitting just 33g/km of C02.

Equipped with a full-EV mode, the Vision RS can run for 70kms without bothering the petrol engine, and the 13 kWh lithium-ion battery pack can be recharged in 2.5hrs.

Inside, Skoda has produced a vegan and eco-sustainable interior, including a 100 per cent recycled polyester thread used for part of seats, and floor mats made from the fibres taken from the leaves of a pineapple tree. Even the paint has been mixed with organic components designed to reflect heat, thus lowering the need for air-con cooling in the cabin.

Skoda is pitching its Vision RS as a window to its performance future, complete with "floating" seats, carbon fibre elements and bespoke crystal touch points in the cabin, as well as what appears to be a massive infotainment screen mounted above the dash and a redesigned space-frame centre console shaped from carbon-fibre.

Andrew Chesterton should probably hate cars. From his hail-damaged Camira that looked like it had spent a hard life parked at the end of Tiger Woods' personal driving range, to the Nissan Pulsar Reebok that shook like it was possessed by a particularly mean-spirited demon every time he dared push past 40km/h, his personal car history isn't exactly littered with gold. But that seemingly endless procession of rust-savaged hate machines taught him something even more important; that cars are more than a collection of nuts, bolts and petrol. They're your ticket to freedom, a way to unlock incredible experiences, rolling invitations to incredible adventures. They have soul. And so, somehow, the car bug still bit. And it bit hard. When "Chesto" started his journalism career with News Ltd's Sunday and Daily Telegraph newspapers, he covered just about everything, from business to real estate, courts to crime, before settling into state political reporting at NSW Parliament House. But the automotive world's siren song soon sounded again, and he begged anyone who would listen for the opportunity to write about cars. Eventually they listened, and his career since has seen him filing car news, reviews and features for TopGear, Wheels, Motor and, of course, CarsGuide, as well as many, many others. More than a decade later, and the car bug is yet to relinquish its toothy grip. And if you ask Chesto, he thinks it never will.
