More than 90 per cent of a batch of Renault’s Zoe electric cars destined for Australian showrooms have been damaged in transit due to an oil spill on the transport vessel that arrived in July.
As a result, CarsGuide understands there could be as little as five units of the emissions-free light hatchback available in Australia for the rest of the year, but the number of available cars could grow as the French brand assesses the extent of the damage.
Both private buyers and fleet customers are affected by the incident, with Renault Australia contacting all affected clients today.
Renault Australia boss Anouk Poelmann said the brand’s priority is ensuring all stock passes all tests before behind handed to customers.
“All affected vehicles will undergo a full inspection, and it is our commitment that no single vehicle will be released to our dealer network unless we are 100 per cent satisfied that there is no impact on the exterior, interior or future reliability of the vehicle,” she said.
Renault has sold just two examples of its Zoe electric vehicle (EV) this year, which is available in Life and Intens grades priced at $47,490 before on-road costs and $49,490 respectively.
