Mini Australia has launched its special-edition John Cooper Works Nightfall Edition, available in three-door hatch and convertible form, as an ultra-exclusive alternative to the Ford Fiesta ST and Toyota Yaris GR.
Just 40 examples of the hatch and 10 units of the convertible will be made available, but exclusivity doesn’t come cheap as the former is priced at $70,990 drive-away, while the latter wears a $75,290 sticker.
Both are a significant step up over their non-Nightfall peers, which come in at $53,850 and $58,900 for the hatch and convertible respectively.
The engine and drivetrain carryover, meaning a 170kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that drives the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, so the extra cost is justified with styling tweaks.
On the outside, both hatch and convertible are finished in an ‘Enigmatic Black Metallic’ paint colour with all the usual chrome accents (headlight covers, door handles, etc) now also blacked out.
Completing the exterior overhaul is a carbon-fibre bonnet scoop, 17-inch wheels, new exhaust surrounds and bespoke badging.
It’s not all just changes for show though, as bigger JCW Sports brakes are also fitted.
Inside, the Nightfall Edition scores a piano black dashboard, carbon-fibre handbrake, alcantara steering wheel, carbon sports seats and – exclusive to the hatchback – an Anthracite headliner.
Drivers are also treated to a 5.0-inch digital instrument screen, while the 8.8-inch multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay also carries over.
