Loads of lusso! 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce steps up in price, but gains extra gear in a bid for more share against Mercedes GLA and BMW X2

The Alfa Romeo Tonale has scored more equipment, but prices come up as a result.

Alfa Romeo Australia has increased pricing for its Tonale Veloce just months after launching, but the brand has compensated the rise with more equipment.

The mid-tier Tonale Veloce hit Australian showrooms in June priced at $56,400, before on-road costs, but now buyers are being asked to pay an additional $1500 making the new price $57,900.

However, there is good reason for the price rise as, from September production, each Veloce gains interior ambient lighting and Alfa’s 'Magic Park' semi-autonomous parking function.

In fact, the former is also available on the entry-level Ti, which retains its $49,900 asking price.

The Tonale line-up will be rounded out with a PHEV powertrain from October this year, also in Veloce trim and priced at $77,500.

As a reminder, the more affordable pair of Tonales are powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology with an output of 118kW/240Nm.

Paired to the engine is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives the front wheels, returning a fuel economy figure of 5.6 litres per 100km.

The plug-in meanwhile, features a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor driving the rear wheels for all-wheel drive traction.

With a combined system output of 208kW, the Tonale PHEV can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds, while its 15.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack enables an all-electric driving range of 60 kilometres.

Standard equipment on the Tonale line-up includes 18-inch wheels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch multimedia touchscreen.

Stepping up to the Veloce nets buyers an Alcantara and synthetic leather cabin, interior red contrast stitching, shift paddles, a surround view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, Brembo-branded brakes, and active suspension.
