F1-inspired limited-edition Mercedes-AMG C63 S confirmed for Australia

The Mercedes-AMG C63 S F1 Edition wears some elements inspired by the red of the Formula 1 medical car.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed it will bring a limited number of 2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance F1 Editions to Australia, as the specifications for the Formula 1-inspired variant are revealed internationally.

The F1 Edition, which is in other markets available for one year onwards from the commencement of Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance sales, will come to Australia as a 63-unit limited edition, meaning it could sell out faster than you can say ‘2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance F1 Edition’.

The C63 S, we’ll call it for short, was officially revealed in full with specifications in September this year, with absurd headline figures like 500kW and 1020Nm from its hybrid drivetrain.

It shuns the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 of old to embrace electrification via AMG’s 2.0-litre turbo four cylinder engine and an axle-mounted electric motor.

Thanks to the F1-derived hybrid tech under the skin, it’s more powerful than a Porsche 992 911 Turbo S, and torquier than just about any other regular production car.

To give it the bark to match its bite, Mercedes has now released three packages to intensify the look of the C63 S.

The Night Package and Night Package II were both announced upon the C63’s reveal, but the F1 Edition is a new limited edition that includes elements like a gloss grey finish that gradients into black down the sides where the AMG logo is featured.

Additionally, the F1 Edition comes with a red trim highlighting the the front lip, rear bumper, and side skirt, the colour inspired by the Mercedes Formula One medical car, an AMG GT63 S four-door.

Finally, the exterior is finished by a set of 20-inch AMG forged wheels in matt black with the same red line surrounding the rim.

Inside, a red and black theme continues while the trim itself is dominated by black nappa leather. Red seatbelts contrast the leather, as do red trim stitching and an illuminated AMG door sill logo.

The F1 logo adorns the floor mats, as well as an ‘indoor’ car cover which has a flannel inner lining to prevent scratches.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says the F1 Edition will arrive in Australia in Q3 2023, as a sedan only (like the standard C63).

It should arrive soon after the C63 S launches in Australia, with pricing expected to be announced closer to the date - likely a noticeable price bump over not only the incoming C63 S, but particularly over the last-gen sedan model, which was priced from $168,176 before on-road costs when last available in 2021.
