Cupra's next few years have been outlined and previewed during the brand's annual conference, with a US launch and new large SUV coming to spearhead the brand's expansion.
The new large SUV is set to join the brand's global line-up - built in right- and left-hand drive, opening the door for an Australian launch - while a production version of the previously seen Cupra Terramar will be revealed later this year during the America's Cup regatta.
In Australia, there's more to come from the Spanish brand with the launch of the electric Tavascan SUV and the Terramar SUV in the first half of 2025, followed by a new VZ variant of the Born hatch, then updated versions of the Leon, Formentor and Born - with timing for the latter facelifts to be confirmed closer to their late 2025/26 launches.
It's a series of big announcements from the freshest and arguably most fashion-forward brand from Volkswagen Group, with CEO Wayne Griffiths telling the conference the aim is to keep the "outstanding success" seen in places like here in Australia rolling along.
"We want to build on our outstanding success in overseas markets such as Australia and Mexico and continue our strong performance in key European markets," Griffiths said.
"But when we talk global, when we say bigger, we mean above all the United States of America.
"Last year, I told you we were analysing entry into the US as part of our ambition to be a truly global brand. I'm confirming today that Cupra will enter the US market by the end of the decade."
Griffiths himself also confirmed the new electric large SUV was on the way, set to debut within the next few years.
"We know it's always been a matter of being well prepared and doing it right. After testing the brand, we know our cars will reflect what customers are looking for in the US.
"We plan to enter initially with two electric models - a battery electric version of the Formentor and a bigger electric crossover SUV."
Currently, Cupra sells the Born and Leon small cars, and the Formentor and Ateca medium SUVs in Australia, meaning a line-up for six models within the next couple of years - and another (the US-focused large SUV) by the end of the decade is likely as the brand continues to expand.
