A joint development between Chinese car brand Chery and tech company Zhimi Technology has resulted in a second ‘iCar’ from the Chery brand, this one an SUV with apparent off-road aspirations called ‘iCar V23’.
According to Chinese media such as CarNewsChina, the company has locally confirmed some details including a choice of single-motor front-drive or dual-motor AWD, with batteries allowing ranges between 400km and 500km.
The V23 measures in at 4220mm long, 1915mm wide and 1845mm tall, with a 2730mm wheelbase making it slightly longer and wider than a Defender 90, but not as tall.

In terms of capability off the road, the iCar V23 has a claimed ground clearance of 212mm in all-wheel-drive guise, with a 43-degree approach angle and 41-degree departure angle.
Wheel sizes come in between 19- and 21-inch options, plus the car features roof racks, side steps, and even flush door handles.
Rugged looks also come thanks to design elements that might be familiar to fans of other off-road icons, its round headlights and horizontal grill, boxy silhouette when seen from the side and rear or the the squared-off ‘spare wheel’ box (for storage, not a wheel).
Inside, the steering wheel and utilitarian, minimalist look suggest the company’s interior designers might have taken inspiration from certain UK-based rivals.
As with Chery’s previous ‘iCar’ model, the 03, don’t expect to see it land in Australia any time soon.
