2024 Genesis GV70 and GV80 price and specs: Reduced model range, increased cost for Audi and Mercedes SUV rivals from Korea

Genesis Australia has streamlined its GV70 and GV80 SUV line-ups, while also increasing pricing by as much as $2030 across the board from September this year.

The Korean luxury brand has stated a desire to reduce complexity as the reason for cutting the sole diesel variant from the GV70 and the two 2.5-litre turbo-petrol versions of the GV80, as well as “a step towards electrification”.

As such, the 2024 GV70 range now starts at $70,500 (+$2000) before on-road costs for the base rear-drive grade with a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine known as the 2.5T RWD, rising to $72,900 (+$2000) for the all-wheel-drive-equipped version called 2.5T AWD.

The top-spec Sport, powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo-petrol V6 engine with AWD, is now $85,100 (+$2030).

The diesel-powered GV70, known as the 2.2D AWD that is now discontinued, was priced at $72,888.

Options available across the 2024 GV70 line-up includes a Luxury Package ($7100-$11,500 depending on grade), Sport Line Package (standard on the Sport, but $4500 elsewhere) and matte paint ($2000).

As for the larger GV80, the 2.5-litre engine has been axed, which means the point of entry jumps to $105,700 (+$2030) for the 3.0D AWD, which is appropriately powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and features AWD.

The top-spec 3.5T AWD is now $110,200 (+$2030).

Similar to the GV70, options for the GV80 include a Luxury Package ($10,500) and matte paint ($2000), as well as a six-seat layout ($13,500).

As a reminder, the 2.5 litre in the base GV70s produces 224kW/442Nm, meanwhile, the 3.5-litre V6 makes a healthy 279kW/530Nm.

The diesel in the GV80 is a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder engine producing 204kW/588Nm.

All GV70 and GV80 powertrains are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Despite the change in price, there are no changes to equipment levels as the jump in expense is attributed to “increased manufacturing and transport costs”.

For the first seven months of the year, Genesis has broken new ground in the new-car market, with the GV70 and GV80 increasing in sales by 103.2 and 45.5 per cent respectively.

While the GV70 still trails leaders in the luxury mid-size SUV segment like BMW’s X3 (2277), Audi’s Q5 (2630) and Mercedes' recently-refreshed GLC (1691), the Korean model’s 634 tally is still outpacing the Cupra Ateca (249) and Alfa Romeo Stelvio (101).

The GV80 meanwhile, has found 208 new homes so far in 2023, which is ahead of the Jaguar F-Pace (138) and Maserati Levante (66), but well behind the segment-leading BMW X5 (2105) and Mercedes-Benz GLE (1726).
