2021 Mercedes-Benz Vito pricing and specs detailed: Ford Transit Custom and Renault Trafic rival scores more safety equipment

Mercedes-Benz Vans has brought its facelifted Vito van into local showrooms, upping standard safety with the inclusion of autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and adding new MWB variants to the mix.

The update won’t come without a cost though, with carryover variants increasing in price by at least $1725.

Kicking off the 2021 line-up is the 111 CDI SWB Panel Van at $42,900 before on-road costs (+$3820), while the LWB version moves up $2510 to $45,100.

The 116 CDI Panel Van is now available in MWB form for $54,900 and LWB for $56,100 (+$1725), with the 119 CDI variants priced at $62,150 and $64,350 (+$6700) respectively.

For the six-seat Crew Cab body style, only the 116 CDI and 119 CDI engines are available, with pricing kicking off from $58,300 and $66,500 each for the MWB size, while the LWB versions wear a $60,500 (+$5110) and $68,750 (+$5580) sticker price.

Each of the three engines available in the Vito range are turbo diesels, with the base 111 CDI outputting 84kW/270Nm from a 1.6-litre unit to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

The 116 CDI ups the angle to 120kW/380Nm thanks to a 2.1-litre engine, with drive sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the 119 CDI uses the same 2.1-litre engine as the 116 CDI, but increases outputs to 140kW/440Nm.

Last year’s 110kW/330Nm 114 CDI engine is now discontinued to “reduce complexity”, according to Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia.

As previously mentioned, Mercedes’ ‘Active Brake Assist’ AEB technology is now standard across the Vito line-up, as well as blind-spot assist and lane-keep assist that were previously available as add-ons, helping justify the price rises.

Other safety systems included in every Vito include crosswind assist, driver attention alert and reversing camera, while ‘Distronic’ adaptive cruise control and highbeam assist is added to the 119 CDI grades.

New in the 2021 model year is the option of a digital rearview mirror, which can be switched to analogue view with the press of a button.

Occupants are also treated to a new 7.0-inch multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, Bluetooth connectivity and USB inputs.

From the outside the 2021 Vito range is distinguished by a fresh radiator grille and new metallic paint choices (graphite grey, selenite grey, steel blue and hyacinth red), as well as unique 17- and 18-inch wheel designs.
