My 1997 VS Toyota Lexcen has done 238,000 km and lacks power and going up a slight incline it drops back a gear. It needs a service with new plugs and oil filters, but my mechanic said the valves or something was sticking, and it would cost $1500 to fix. I drive around 800 km a week, mostly on LPG, but would it be worth adding an injector cleaner to the tank for a couple of fills?
No, using an injector cleaner would only help if you were running on petrol, it would have no effect at all if you were running on gas. I would suspect that the engine is tired and in need of a freshen up, particularly if it's been running on gas for some time. Installing new plugs and leads would help, but I would suggest you have the compression checked. That would tell you if the valves are sticking, or even leaking.
