    I RECENTLY saw a 1989 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, one owner, 64,000km, in perfect order for $47,000. If I kept it until 200,000km would this be a stunning ride, or would running costs, insurance and service consign me to walking to the nearest soup kitchen. I now drive a V8 Statesman.

    YOU have to go into a car like this with your eyes wide open. Rolls-Royces won't necessarily send you broke, but they could if you aren't familiar with them and where to get them serviced. Stick to the Statesman.
