01. Alfa Romeo Giulia







Alfa's much-vaunted rebirth starts with the mid-size Giulia four-door sedan, which can be had from February in base trim for $59,895, Super guise for approximately $64,195 (or $65,895 with a diesel), and Veloce form for around $71,895.

The Giulia is very well equipped for the money across the board, and there's no doubt it's a sharp looker, too.

02. Audi Q5




The new Q5, due down under in the second half of 2017, will be made not in Germany but, for the first time ever, in Mexico. Based on the Audi's new MLB platform, it's longer and lighter than the current Q5, and will be offered in diesel, petrol, front- and all-wheel-drive combos.

The A5, meanwhile will start its rollout in early 2017. The A4-based two-door coupe will be the first to drop, followed in a few months by a convertible and a mildly hotter S5.

04. Audi RS3 sedan








On the hot sedan front, Audi will also roll out the new Audi RS3 sedan mid-way through the year. Partnering with the RS3 hatch, the sedan's 2.5-litre five-pot engine kicks out the same faintly astonishing 294kW, and will be priced around $80,000 plus on-roads.

05. BMW 5 Series








Just one model in the all-new seventh generation BMW 5 Series range will sneak under our $100,000 cap; the 520d will start at $93,900 plus on-roads.

Lighter, better equipped – and more expensive – the 5 Series will debut in Australia midway through 2017.

06. Genesis G80

You already know what the Genesis G80 looks like – it's the same four-door premium Hyundai-made limousine as the original 2014 Genesis, albeit with a slight facelift.

What's of more interest is the G80 Sport that debuted at the recent LA motor show, which comes complete with a new 3.3-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder that makes 272kW. It's yet to be confirmed for Australia, though.

07. HSV ClubSport R8






Holden Special Vehicles has already taken the covers off the last batch of Holden Commodore-based cars that the brand will ever produce.

The HSV lineup starts at $79,990 ($3000 up on last year's car), while you can still order a GTS for a nick under $100,000. As well, HSV has brought the GTSR nameplate back from 1996, with the GTSR Maloo ute coming in at $96,990 before on-roads.

Revisions to front and rear bars as well as exterior and interior tweaks are complemented by unique decals proclaiming the cars' place in motoring history.

All cars bar the GTS get an extra 10kW, which takes the output of the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 to 410kW and 690Nm. The GTS keeps its 430kW and 740Nm, while the GTSR gets 435kW and 740Nm.

The headline act is of course the 474kW GTSR W1, but its $170k sticker price is well outside the realms of this story, along with the fact that they're all already sold.

08. Infiniti Q60 Red Sport







A Red Sport version of the Q60 coupe will touch down locally before the middle of the year, sporting a twin-turbo V6 powerplant as standard fitment and a price around $80,000.

We weren't enamoured by the Q50 Red Sport when we tested it, but the Q60 could be a different proposition in coupe form.

09. Land Rover Discovery




The latest version of the popular Disco will land locally half way through the year with no fewer than 12 models.

With three diesels and four trim levels – but no petrols - prices will start from $64,300.

10. Volkswagen Golf R




The hottest Golf of them all is set to pick up the changes that the rest of the range will score; to wit, LED lights front and back, new bars and additional tech.

As well, its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-potter will pick up a handful of kilowatts, topping out at around 213kW (up from 206).

While the hatch is a given, the R wagon is looking good for a 2017 comeback, as well.

11. Volvo V90






The wagon version of Volvo's beautiful S90 sedan is slated for a launch before Easter in Australia. No word on pricing and specs, but the four-model line up of the sedan would be a logical place to start, along with a starting price around the $80,000 mark for a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol model.
