The Elegance is the mid-grade in the third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan range.

The Elegance can be chosen with either a base 110TSI engine option in front-wheel drive priced at $50,690 plus on-road costs, or mid-grade 150TSI all-wheel drive, priced at $60,690.

Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloys in an alternate design to the base Life, rear privacy glass, improved LED headlights with dynamic cornering functions and a light-bar, a 12.9-inch multimedia screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, leather interior trim, power-adjustable seats with with heating, ventilation and massaging functions, a heated steering wheel, dual wireless phone chargers and an electric tailgate.

The base 110TSI engine produces 110kW/250Nm and drives the front wheels via an updated seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the 150TSI engine option produces 150kW/320Nm and drives all four wheels via the same seven-speed automatic.

In addition to the standard equipment on both engine grades, the 150TSI Elegance also gains adaptive chassis control and hill descent control with additional off-road and snow driving modes, as well as the larger 15-inch multimedia touchscreen, helping justify its $10,000 price jump.

Both the 110TSI and 150TSI have official/combined fuel consumption ratings of 7.6L/100km, and the Tiguan range is covered by VW's usual five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Despite studying ancient history and law at university, it makes sense Tom ended up writing about cars, as he spent the majority of his waking hours finding ways to drive as many as possible. His fascination with automobiles was also accompanied by an affinity for technology growing up, and he is just as comfortable tinkering with gadgets as he is behind the wheel. His time at CarsGuide has given him a nose for industry news and developments at the forefront of car technology.
