A striking European SUV is making its return to Australia with an electric twist.
Renault have announced the revival of the Scenic name, but this time it's an all-electric SUV. It will join the smaller Megane E-tech SUV in the French brand's growing electric range.
The Scenic badge was last seen in 2009 with a five-seater and a seven-seater people mover in 2010.
The 2026 Scenic E-Tech is an all-electric five-seater SUV that will come in standard and long range variants, both powered by a single electric motor.
Based on the European model specifications, the standard variant produces 125kW and 280Nm to the front wheels, shifting from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds.
Its 60kWh battery pack offers a claimed WLTP range of 430km.
The long-range variant has more power at 160kW and 300Nm, and a 7.9-second 0-100km/h time, with the larger 87kWh battery providing a WLTP range of 625km.
More details will be provided closer to the car’s launch data in Australia, which is scheduled for later this year.
The mid-size electric SUV options have been expaning fast in the past year in Australia.
The KGM (formerly known as SsangYong) Torres EVX that will launch at roughly the same time as the Scenic E-Tech, starting from less than $50,000 drive-away.
Geely’s EX5 launched earlier in 2025 and has sold more than 3000 examples so far, while the new Kia EV5 has made nearly 4000 sales this year.
The Scenic E-Tech will also have to contend with European rivals such Skoda’s Enyaq that starts from $69,990 (before on-road costs) and the Volkswagen ID.4, starting from $59,990.
This announcement forms part of Renault’s market push in Australia from the start of 2025, which included the introduction of six new or updated models over the next 18 months.
General Manager of Renault Australia Glen Sealey said more announcements will follow the revived Scenic.
“In a sea of ‘same-same’ SUVs, the Renault Scenic E-Tech stands out for its French flair, cutting edge design, and easy-to-use technology,” he said.
“The Renault Scenic E-Tech is just the start of our revitalisation program and we are delighted to be able to introduce this award-winning car in Australia.
“We will have more to share about the Renault Scenic E-Tech closer to local showroom arrivals,” he said.
