China’s Leapmotor has revealed a new flagship offering called the D19.
Previously referred to as the D16, this large SUV is based on the company’s new D platform. It’s set to launch in China in the first half of 2026 and will be offered with electric (EV) and range-extender (REEV) powertrains.
The EV version is powered by dual electric motors with a total system output of 540kW, according to Car News China. This is good for a claimed 0-100km/h in under 3.0 seconds.
These are fed by a 115kWh battery pack that allows for a range of up to 720km, according to lenient CLTC testing.
This battery pack operates on a 1000V electric architecture, allowing for 350km of range to be added in 15 minutes of charging.
With the REEV version, on the other hand, it features dual electric motors with 400kW of total system output. There’s a petrol engine that can be used as a generator to feed the 80.3kWh battery pack.
Leapmotor claims the D19 REEV has an electric range of up to 500km, according to lenient CLTC testing.
This vehicle operates on an 800V electric architecture, allowing the battery pack to charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 15 minutes.
Externally, the Leapmotor D19 measures in at over 5.2 metres long, almost 2.0 metres wide, and has a wheelbase over 3.1 metres long. This makes it larger than a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series.
There are five exterior paint colours to choose from – Green, White, Silver, Grey and Black.
Highlight exterior features include an active grille shutter and 21-inch alloy wheels, and full-width LED light bars front and rear.
The headlights are able to project animations on the ground ahead of the vehicle, whereas the rear light bar can use pixels to create animations and show how charged the vehicle is.
At this stage Leapmotor hasn’t revealed any interior imagery of the D19. However, it has confirmed there’s a 60-inch head-up display, zero-gravity front seats, as well as Nappa leather upholstery.
The D19 also comes with a built-in oxygen generator which is able to produce up to 8 litres of oxygen per minute. This is likely to help combat air pollution and also allow sufficient airflow while travelling in high-altitude areas.
The Leapmotor D19 sits at the top of the Chinese carmaker’s line-up. In Australia the mid-size C10 SUV is only offered currently, however, the smaller B10 SUV is set to launch in November 2025.
The B05 hatchback has also been confirmed for Australia and will arrive in the second half of 2026.
