The SQ6 tops out the Q6 e-tron range, offering both the most powerful drivetrain but also a significant lift in standard equipment which is otherwise optional on the rest of the range.

Kicking off from $151,400 before on-road costs, the SQ6 lifts its total power outputs to a combined 360kW/580Nm. It can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds using launch control.

It can extract 586km of range from its 94.9kWh battery with a combined official energy consumption of 18.4kWh/100km.

A claimed peak charging speed of 270kW will take the battery from 10 - 80 per cent in just 21 minutes if you can find a fast enough charger.

In addition, it receives 21-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers, adaptive air suspension, aluminium-look highlights, acoustic window glazing, the panoramic sunroof, rear privacy glass, coloured ambient lighting and an electric steering column adjust as standard.

This adds to the existing suite on lower grades, consisting of Matrix LED headlights, and the full suite of screens and software, consisting of a 14.5-inch OLED multimedia touchscreen in the centre, a 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.9-inch passenger multimedia display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charger up front, as well as heated seats front and rear with tri-zone climate control.

All Q6 e-tron grades get the same array of active safety equipment, which includes an upgraded auto emergency braking suite, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go function.

It is also offered with a five-year warranty, six years of roadside assist, and an industry standard eight-year/160,000km battery warranty, as well as a one year Chargefox subscription.

His fascination with automobiles was also accompanied by an affinity for technology growing up, and he is just as comfortable tinkering with gadgets as he is behind the wheel. His time at CarsGuide has given him a nose for industry news and developments at the forefront of car technology.
