Porsche Macan 2020 review: Turbo snapshot

Porsche claims its Macan Turbo will accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.5sec
EXPERT RATING
7.9
Porsche and Turbo; two words that go together so well. And this combination sits at the top of the German maker's mid-size Macan SUV line-up.

The Turbo sits at the top of the four-grade Porsche Macan line-up, and is powered by a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo petrol V6 engine producing 324kW/550Nm, sending drive to all four wheel via a seven-speed dual-clutch auto transmission and electronic multi-plate clutch pack.

Porsche claims it will accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.5sec (4.3sec with 'Sport Chrono Package') which is super-rapid for a 2.0-tonne, five-seat SUV. And practicality scores equal billing, with load space ranging from 500 litres with all seats up, to 1500 litres with the 40/20/40 split-folding rear sear lowered.

With a price tag of $142,000, before on-road costs, the flagship model isn't short on standard equipment with highlights including, three-zone climate control, 18-way adjustable heated and ventilated sports front seats, air suspension (auto self-levelling), 21-inch alloy rims, auto tailgate, active cruise control, leather trim, LED headlights (and DRLs and tail-lights), sat nav, surround camera system, 10.9-inch multimedia touchscreen (running the Porsche Communication Management System), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as 14-speaker BOSE surround sound audio with digital radio.

Safety is also a high priority for Porsche with active tech highlights including active high-beam control, lane departure warning, AEB, and a rollover mitigation system. Passive measures include airbags for the driver and front passenger, side airbags for front and (outside) rear occupants, as well as full-length curtain bags.

Claimed fuel economy for the combined (ADR 81/02 - urban, extra-urban) cycle is 10.0L/100km, the Macan Turbo emitting 229g/km of CO2 in the process. Minimum fuel requirement is 98 RON premium unleaded, and you'll need 75 litres of it to fill the tank.

Warranty is three years/unlimited km, with the paint covered for three years and rust perforation for 12 years. Service is required every 12 months/15,000km.
