The BMW iX2 is a medium-sized electric prestige SUV which was first introduced to Australia at the same time as the second-generation combustion-powered X2’s arrival in 2024.

A competitor to Mercedes-Benz’s EQA the iX2 currently comes in two guises: the eDrive20 with a single motor making 150kW; and the dual-motor xDrive30 that has 230kW of power.

The iX2 has a 64.8kWh lithium ion battery and a range of up to 395km.

The iX2 is among BMW’s growing range of electric vehicles which includes the i5, i4, i7, iX and iX1.

The line-up currently starts at $84,700 for the IX2 Edrive20 M Sport and ranges through to $87,600 for the range-topping IX2 Xdrive30 M Sport.

BMW IX2 Interior

Modeled on the related iX1, the iX2's cabin is airy and practical with high levels of technology thanks to BMW's latest operating system.

The slanted roofline and tapered rear end does compromise the iX2's rear seat, however it is still usable for those under six foot.

BMW IX2 Boot Space

Thanks to its longer body, the iX2 delivers more VDA boot space than the iX1 at 525 litres.

Folding the 40/20/40 split rear bench increases this to 1400 litres.

BMW IX2 Speed

The single motor iX2 eDrive20 reaches 100km/h in a claimed 8.6 seconds and its top speed is limited to 170km/h.

The twin-motor improves performance, getting the xDrive30 to 100km/h in a claimed 5.6 seconds and onto a 180km/h top speed.

BMW IX2 Accessories

Some key features include 19-inch alloy wheels, M Sport kit with adaptive dampers, adaptive LED headlights, head-up display and 10.7-inch touchscreen.

A Harman/Kardon sound system and sunroof are part of the Enhancement pack.

All iX2s include tyre pressure monitoring, acoustic pedestrian warning, a 12-month Chargefox subscription, and Mode 2 and 3 charging cables.

BMW IX2 Engine

The iX2 uses fifth-generation electrically excited synchronous motors. The eDrive20 produces 150kW and 247Nm from a front-mounted motor.

For the iX2 xDrive30, BMW fits a pair of motors. Each produces equal power and torque (140kW/247Nm) for a combined total output of 230kW and 494Nm.

BMW IX2 Seats

The iX2 is a five-seat SUV with 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats.

Artificial leather upholstery is standard in three colours with real 'Vernasca' leather optional.

BMW IX2 Range

The single motor iX2 eDrive20 recorded 439km in the combined WLTP and the twin motor 417km. Both use a 64.8kWh battery.
