Maxx Sport variants of the CX-5 are offered with two petrol engine choices – a 115kW/200Nm 2.0 litre and 140kW/252Nm 2.5 litre – as well as a 2.2-litre twin-turbo-diesel outputting 140kW/450Nm.

Only the 2.0-litre engine sends drive to the front axle, with the larger 2.5-litre and diesel units spinning all four wheels.

No matter which engine though, all Maxx Sport versions come with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing for the Maxx Sport starts at $36,290 before on-road costs for the FWD 2.0-litre petrol, while the AWD 2.5-litre petrol is $39,290. Meanwhile, the AWD 2.2-litre turbo-diesel costs $42,290.

New for the 2020 model year in Maxx Sport versions is the standard inclusion of paddle shifters, while 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, cloth trim, push-button start and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter carryover.

Nestled between the driver and front passenger is an 8.0-inch multimedia screen that outputs to a six-speaker sound system, and also includes features such as Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and satellite navigation.

Standard safety gear includes blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and a reversing camera with rear parking sensors.

The CX-5 Maxx Sport boasts a maximum five-star ANCAP crash safety rating.
