The second-to-top CX-5 grade, the GT, starts off from $46,090, before on-road costs, for the 140kW/252Nm 2.5-litre petrol.
Stepping up to the 170kW/420Nm 2.5-litre turbo-petrol costs $48,590, while a 140kW/450Nm 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel engine can also be had for $49,090.
All versions of the GT send drive to each corner via a six-speed automatic transmission.
From the outside, the GT features 19-inch wheels and a sunroof, while inside it boasts a leather interior available in black or white, powered front seats and a premium 10-speaker Bose sound system.
Standard equipment includes an 8.0-inch multimedia display with satellite navigation and smartphone mirroring, push-button start, keyless entry, head-up display and powered tailgate.
On the safety front, the GT is kitted out with autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors and traffic sign recognition.
The Mazda CX-5 GT carries a maximum five-star ANCAP crash safety rating.
