Mazda’s top-spec CX-5 Akera is available with a choice of three engines, kicking off at $48,330 for the 140kW/252Nm 2.5-litre petrol.

A 2.5-litre turbo-petrol unit can also be had that ups the ante to 170kW/420Nm, but also the price to $50,930.

Finally, the 140kW/450Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel powertrain can be bought for $51,330, making it the most expensive CX-5 available in Australia.

As expected, the flagship grade CX-5 Akera is loaded with gear including nappa leather interior, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, 19-inch alloy wheels, frameless rearview mirror, powered tailgate, adaptive LED headlights, head-up display, keyless entry, and push button start.

The multimedia system is displayed on an 8.0-inch screen, and also sports features such as digital radio, satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support.

The CX-5 Akera is also not left wanting on the safety front, with autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, surround-view monitor, reversing camera and blind-spot monitor.

Like all Mazda CX-5s, the Akera grade has been awarded a full five-star ANCAP safety rating.
