Toyota Kluger 2012: Is the intermediate driving shaft covered under warranty?
By Graham Smith · 29 Jun 2018

The intermediate driving shaft on my 2012 Toyota Kluger was replaced. It has had the 110,000 km service that it’s not covered by a warranty. When I asked to confirm with Toyota they said they would get back to me. I rang the Toyota dealer and asked what had happened and was told I was out of my warranty. When I asked him to recheck, as we had another month left on the warranty he put me on hold and came back with only some parts of the steering is covered and the part replaced is not. It just does not seem right. When I said I wanted to talk to Toyota about the problem he hung up.

Can you buy a 2013 MG MG6 with a new car warranty?
By Graham Smith · 29 Jun 2018

Someone mentioned that you can buy a 2013 MG MG6 with new car warranty still. I have been looking into these cars and I think an MG6 SE Hatchback would fit my needs. Is buying an MG with warranty being a major factor in my decision an insane idea? From what I've seen, there aren't major reliability flaws. Am I insane to be tempted by this value?

Hyundai i30 2012: Does it have faulty airbags?
By Graham Smith · 29 Jun 2018

I have a 2012 Hyundai i30 premium diesel. It is just outside of the warranty period and the airbag warning light has been going on and off. I went to the local Hyundai dealer where I have had it serviced and they told me it was a clock spring and would have to be fixed, as they couldn’t guarantee that the airbag would go off or not in an accident. The charge is $290. Surely this is something that shouldn’t go wrong on a car and with all the problems and talk about dodgy airbags that Hyundai should fix as a gesture of goodwill. In other countries they have fixed this item for free, but not here. How do I know if this is a problem on all Hyundais that they are trying to make customers fix rather than doing a recall?

Mazda 3 2015: Paint peeling
By Graham Smith · 23 Jun 2018

Just before the warranty ran out on my 2015 Mazda3 I noticed the paint was peeling off the bonnet. It is pulling away right back to the metal.

The dealer says as outlined in the owner’s book, bird droppings cause this. I thought this is ridiculous as the car is well cared for and cleaned. If droppings are noticed they are removed as soon as practically possible. He refused to give me the decision in writing. I followed up with head office, and they promised the world, then came back and said, photos from the dealer are unclear, so needs more investigation. Then came back and said, the dealer said it was droppings, end of story, and nothing can be done.

Wondering if this is a common story of Mazda paint? I also have a Mazda6, parked and cared for in the same way, with no issue at all. Feel it is terrible quality if the paint will peel off after droppings being on it for a few hours. This story is a little more back and forth, but this is the summary, can provide more details and photos.

Why does the driver assists only working intermittently on my 2018 Renault Koleos?
By Graham Smith · 15 Jun 2018

Yesterday following a particularly strange, almost twittering noise in my 2018 Renault Koleos, the driver assist systems (blind spot and lane assist) are only working intermittently. The car has done less than 3000km.

Volkswagen Polo 2014: Turbo replacement
By Graham Smith · 15 Jun 2018

My VW Polo is 3.5 years old and has been serviced every 10,000km. From new it had a whirr in it that sounded like something was off centre. Several trips back to the dealer failed to have it fixed until it gradually just disappeared. Having just had the 100,000km service I have been advised the turbo has been passing excess oil which has now been diagnosed as a failing turbo. The dealership explained that they've had to replace a few from that year, as it happened a bit to this model. VW have offered 70 per cent of parts with the turbo costing $3700 alone. I'm left out of pocket $2500 to replace a turbo that has obviously failed during the warranty period. I just feel it's pretty ordinary service for a company I would have thought would be trying to rebuild customer trust after fudging emission numbers.

Is the engine light not covered by warranty?
By Graham Smith · 09 Jun 2018

We bought a 2007 Mitsubishi Pajero, and after driving locally the engine light came on. We rang the dealership and were told that the engine light was not covered by warranty. So therefore, the light indicating a problem with engine is not recognised.

How can this be fair if it's telling you something is wrong with engine itself! Now we are being treated unfairly because we paid for a diagnostic test and it shows that the DPF needs replacing.

Can they brush this off; as we think they have just been resetting it so it goes off long enough til you're out of their yard.

Can I get a goodwill case on an out of warranty car?
By Graham Smith · 08 Jun 2018

I purchased my 2013 Jeep Patriot in 2015 as an ex demo. It was built in 2013, complied 2014, and registered in 2015 with 9000 km on the clock.

The car is now at 58,000 km and 10 months out of warranty. I have had to have a diagnostic report done on the gearbox. They found at my last service that there was a failure of the gearbox bearings. I have taken it in to have the gearbox removed to find the problem.

They have reported that I will need to spend $2500 to have this replaced. I find this very confusing with such low km. Have you had any other cases with this model you can tell me about? Also their customer service has been horrible, they have had my car for over seven days and finally I have some feed back.

They have suggested a goodwill case, but I have to say I'm not hopeful.

I think my mechanic broke my car
By Graham Smith · 08 Jun 2018

Firstly, my 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer is in perfect condition with only 130,000 km on the odometer.

Last year I took my car in for the airbag recall at the Mitsubishi service centre. After collecting my car it would not accelerate above 20 km/h and the engine light was on. I returned to the centre and complained. Mitsubishi washed its hands of the situation. Basically, they told me that since I had not serviced my car through them in three years they don’t know what had been to my car.

Mitsubishi blew the on-board computer system, which was costly to replace. I received another recall for the airbag this week, but I’m terrified the same thing will happen. My car is valued at $6000 est. I don’t want to pay another $2000 to fix their costly mistake. What should I do? I’m furious I have to go through this again.
