I have a 2012 Hyundai i30 premium diesel. It is just outside of the warranty period and the airbag warning light has been going on and off. I went to the local Hyundai dealer where I have had it serviced and they told me it was a clock spring and would have to be fixed, as they couldn’t guarantee that the airbag would go off or not in an accident. The charge is $290. Surely this is something that shouldn’t go wrong on a car and with all the problems and talk about dodgy airbags that Hyundai should fix as a gesture of goodwill. In other countries they have fixed this item for free, but not here. How do I know if this is a problem on all Hyundais that they are trying to make customers fix rather than doing a recall?
The reality is that things do go wrong on cars and sometimes we have to pay to have them fixed. Your car is eight years old. I wouldn’t quibble with it; I’d just fix it.
