The MG4 is one of Australia's most affordable electric cars, with the small hatch going tyre to tyre with the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora.
Within MG's passgener car line-up, the MG4 slots in above the MG3 light hatch and below the MG5 small sedan.
The line-up currently starts at $36,990 for the MG4 Essence 64 140Kw and ranges through to $55,990 for the range-topping MG4 Xpower.
There are seven paintwork colour options, including Dover White, White Standard, Black Pearl Metallic, Piccadilly Blue Metallic, Sterling Silver Metallic, Iris Cyan Metallic, Diamond Red Metallic and Camden Grey Metallic.
Standard accessories include keyless entry, heated steering wheel, leather steering wheel, heated front seats, electric driver's seat, 360-degree camera, wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 12.8-inch multimedia display, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, digital radio, wireless phone charging - 15W, three USB-C ports, a 12-volt socket, satellite navigation, full suite of LED lighting (external), electric and heated side mirrors, synthetic leather/fabric upholstery, single-zone climate control, electric windows with one-touch up/down (all) and V2L (Vehicle to Load) capability.
The interior of the updated MG4 is fresh and feels like a more polished cabin. Synthetic leather and fabric upholstery, large digital displays and a cleaner dashboard give it a more upmarket feel, while thankfully retaining something that is becoming increasingly rare in new cars - physical buttons.
There are two variants available with different electric configurations but both are rear-wheel drive.
The Essence 64 has a 64kWh lithium ion (NCM) battery and a single electric motor producing up to 140kW/350Nm.

The MG4 is available with five seats in a 2/3 configuration. The drivers' seat is electric and both front seats feature a heat function.
The rear seat has a 60/40 split and a mix of synthetic leather and fabric is the standard upholstery.
The 2026 MG4 EV range offers 350 litres of boot space with the rear seat upright and 1165 litres with the rear seat folded. The more spacious MG4 EV Urban offers 382 litres which expands to 1266 litres with the rear seat folded. The Urban provides an additional 98 litres of storage in a large bin beneath the load floor.
The official 0-100km/h sprint time sits between 3.8 and 7.5 seconds depending on the variant. Top speed also varies between grades to sit between 180-200km/h.
