The MG4 Excite 64 is the first step up the ladder in the range, priced at $44,990 (plus on-road costs), a $6000 premium over the entry-level Excite 51.

The Excite 64 comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, cloth-trimmed seats, a 7.0-inch digital instrument panel, 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a four-speaker sound system.

The Excite 64 gets a more powerful 150kW electric motor and 64kWh battery, which provides a range of 450km. All models in the MG4 line-up are equipped with vehicle-to-lead technology, which means you can draw power from the car to power external appliances.

The cabin is spacious, with good room front and back, but has a minimalist design, with limited storage space in the rear.

Steve has been obsessed with all things automotive for as long as he can remember. Literally, his earliest memory is of a car. Having amassed an enviable Hot Wheels and Matchbox collection as a kid he moved into the world of real cars with an Alfa Romeo Alfasud. Despite that questionable history he carved a successful career for himself, firstly covering motorsport for Auto Action magazine before eventually moving into the automotive publishing world with CarsGuide in 2008. Since then he's worked for every major outlet, having work published in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Drive.com.au, Street Machine, V8X and F1 Racing. These days he still loves cars as much as he did as a kid and has an Alfa Romeo Alfasud in the garage (but not the same one as before... that's a long story).
