The 2022 Isuzu D-Max range of configurations is currently priced from $24,990.
Our most recent review of the 2022 Isuzu D-Max resulted in a score of 9.5 out of 10 for that particular example.
Carsguide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar had this to say at the time: The Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain is an awesome ute that combines true practicality and versatility for growing families. It still has most creature comforts but the powerful turbo-diesel engine has the grunt to satisfy those still needing a workhorse that also moonlights as the family car.

Just like most ute customers, those in the market for a 2021 Isuzu D-Max will have the choice of more than a handful of accessories to fit to their ute. And that’s the genuine accessories catalog we’re talking about - don’t even get us started on aftermarket options.
The list includes options for nudge bars and bull bars, all of which are designed to work with the advanced driver safety assistance systems including AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection. But take note - there are no genuine Isuzu bull bar options with winch capability, though there are points to attach aerials.
There are other protective options like bonnet protector and headlight protector choices, not to mention weathershields, side steps, roof rack systems, and different wheel choices.
Other accessories include: snorkel, roof rails, rubber floor mats, canopy, hard tonneau cover, tub liner / bed liner, soft tonneau cover, rubber tray mat, ladder rack, driving lights and more.
If you’re not going for a pick-up and want to go with a dealer-fit tray option for your cab-chassis single, extra or double cab D-Max, you’ll be happy to know there are a few choices available including aluminium and steel trays, and accessories like underbody storage optional, too.
Any time you have a grinding noise from the driveline of a car, it’s time to have it checked out. That’s because continuing to drive it in that condition might cause more damage than was already there. Grinding sounds from the area of the transmission can indicate worn bearings in the gearbox which, if caught early enough can sometimes be replaced without resorting to a complete transmission replacement. Even so, it will be a big job as the gearbox will need to be removed and pulled apart.
You may also find while you’re inside the transmission that there’s other wear that needs to be addressed, at which point the decision becomes whether to repair or replace. You can buy a reconditioned transmission from a specialist shop, or a second-hand one from what was once called a wrecking yard. If you do the latter, make sure the used gearbox has been tested and comes with some sort of warranty. The cost of a replacement could be anywhere from $1000 to $10,000 depending on what you buy and where you buy it from.

Any time a diesel engine produces black smoke, it’s doing so because too much fuel is entering the engine. The danger then is that the engine will start to run hot and that can cause all sorts of meltdowns. But combined with a knocking noise, black smoke can also signal serious internal engine damage.
The best advice is to not drive it any farther and get a diesel specialist to look at it. Diesel engines often make a knocking noise as a normal part of their operation, but if this noise has changed, then something’s wrong.

There’s a bit to unpack here. The first is that the D-Max is rated to safely tow 3.5 tonnes, so it’s not as if you constantly have the vehicle overloaded in terms of what it’s towing.
But if you also have the tray full of gear as well as 2.3 tonnes of caravan on the hitch, you might find that you’ve been inadvertently running overloaded for most of the time. It happens more than you think. At which point, the Pedders specialist is right; you need a suspension upgrade.
Even then, however, you still need to stay within the manufacturer’s maximum GCM (Gross Combination Mass) and the GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) to stay legal. You can sometimes officially upgrade the GVM with a suspension upgrade that’s been properly engineered, tested and approved (which Pedders is a specialist in) but the GCM is generally not able to be upgraded according to the law in each state and territory.
But none of this explains why a vehicle designed to two 3.5 tonnes is wearing out its rear springs with 2.3 tonnes hitched up. Is the tow-ball down-weight within the legal limit (usually 10 per cent of the weight of the towed load)? Incorrect loading in this manner could affect the springs. Perhaps a fully-loaded visit to an accredited weighbridge might net more answers.
However, if it’s a simple case of the springs wearing out prematurely, then it’s possibly Isuzu’s problem to fix under warranty. Perhaps there was a bad batch of springs fitted at the factory that is affecting your vehicle and others built at the same time. Stranger things have happened.

The interior of the new-generation 2021 Isuzu D-Max is perhaps one of the biggest improvements over the previous model, and that’s saying something because this new ute is much improved in many ways.
The thing is, though, that you get a bit more wow factor in the cabin than before, with the top two grades getting a 9.0-inch touchscreen media unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and USB-connect Android Auto. Plus these variants have additional USB charging in the rear row if you choose a dual cab, too.
The lower grades get a 7.0-inch screen which still has the smartphone tech but doesn’t look quite as amazing, as the bezel is the same size. But compared to the last model, this is a huge step forward.
There are also much improved materials, though the base grades (SX and LS-M) still get rubber floors and hard-wearing fabric seats. The LS-U has fabric seats and carpet flooring, while the X-Terrain steps things up with leather accented seats. Both the LS-U and X-Terrain have leather-trimmed steering wheels.
Wondering how many seats are in the 2021 Isuzu D-Max? That’ll depend on the body-style you choose.
The single cab versions are two-seater only. No bench seats here to rub sweaty shoulders with your workmates, and there’s even a centre front airbag to protect both occupants in the event of a side-impact collision.
The extra cab models are also two-seat only. Previously, extra cab (or space cab, in Isuzu speak) models had four seats, including two rear spots for passengers. But not anymore, as the brand reckons the safety standards it has set for the new-generation model wouldn’t be met by having human occupants in the back of this body ute.
Choose a dual cab (or double cab) of any model grade and you’ll find yourself with five seats. The rear is foldable to allow secure storage if you don’t need all five positions filled, and there are dual ISOFIX child seat tethers and two top-tether hooks (that feed to a centre secure lashing location - you can’t fit three child seats in the back).
It has been reported that the D-Max can achieve 0-100km/h acceleration in just under 9.8 seconds.
