The Forthing Taikon 5 arrived in Australian showrooms in September 2026, imported by Ateco Automotive. Production began in approximately 2020 under Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, initially on petrol and hybrid platforms. The model targets budget-conscious buyers seeking a mid-size SUV alternative to established Japanese and Korean rivals, undercutting competitors like the BYD Atto 3 on price.

Underpinned by Dongfeng's EMA platform for combustion and hybrid variants and EMA-E for electric versions, the range expanded from petrol-only to include hybrid, range-extender electric (REEV) and battery electric (BEV) drivetrains. Australian-spec cars use the EMA-E architecture exclusively, launching with EV and REEV options rather than following the petrol-first rollout seen in earlier overseas markets.

Globally the same vehicle wears different badges: Friday in China, Forthing 5 in Europe and Cirelli 5 in Italy. The Forthing Taikon 5 sits as one of Australia's cheapest mid-size electric SUVs, alongside rivals from BYD and Jaecoo.

The 2026 Forthing Taikon 5 doesn’t have any official 0-100km/h sprint time or top speed figures.

The EV should be able to get to 100km/h in under 10 seconds, however the REEV may take longer than 10 seconds due to it having less power and being heavier.

Both versions of the Taikon 5 should be able to get to 150km/h.
