The Audi S5 Sedan and S5 Avant join the new Audi A5 from launch as the more performance-focused variants in the line-up, coming in at $114,900 and $117,900 respectively.
The S5 features 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, selectable OLED rear lights, tinted windows, Nappa leather-upholstered seats with cooling and massage functions up front, ambient lighting, a head-up display, high-power USB outlets, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger.
Audi also has a limited-availability launch variant of the S5, the Edition One, which comes at $99,900 for the S5 Edition One Sedan or $102,900 for the Avant. It has the S5’s performance but fewer features and A5-equivalent trim. It has non-adjustable sport suspension, for example, and to score much of the main S5’s kit requires cost-options or option packs.
The S5, regardless of variant, has a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6 with a mild hybrid system. It makes 270kW and 550Nm, sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch.
The full suite of Audi’s more-than 30 safety and driver assistance systems is standard for the S5, as well as nine airbags and five stars from Euro NCAP, but no published confirmation from our equivalent ANCAP.
Audi’s standard five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty can be extended to nine years, which costs $3590, while servicing for five years can be prepaid to lock in a $3540 price. Servicing intervals for the S5 come in at every 15,000km or 12 months.
