Denza is a premium Chinese electric car brand launched in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler. The partnership combined BYD’s battery tech with Daimler’s engineering to target China’s growing EV market. Denza’s first model, the 2014 500 hatchback, was one of China’s earliest premium EVs.
Sales were slow at first, but Denza shifted strategy. In 2021, BYD took majority control and restructured the brand. Denza relaunched as a more upmarket player with a new lineup of electric SUVs and MPVs. The D9 people mover and N7 SUV led the charge, offering luxury features and competitive range.
While Denza cars aren’t yet sold in Australia but will be soon. With growing interest in Chinese electric vehicles, Denza will join BYD and others in offering more choice in the premium EV space.
