The SX is the second rung on the Sportage ladder, sitting above the entry-level S and below the SX+ and GT-Line.
It builds on the spec offering in the S (think cloth seats, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but no wireless charging, a six-speaker stereo and a 4.2-inch driver screen) by adding 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate, standard navigation and rain-sensing wipers.
Unlike the S, it's available with a wide range of powertrain choices, including the 2.0-litre petrol to diesel engines, or 1.6-litre turbo-hybrid in front- or all-wheel drive.
All Sportage models start with seven airbags, and both the S and SX get a pretty full suite of safety stuff, including a new SOS Button should you have an accident, AEB with junction sensing, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep and lane follow assist, a rear-view camera and the always-infuriating speed limit monitoring.
