Volkswagen Golf 2011: Accelerator problems

We haven’t been getting reports of problems once the DSG has been replaced under the recall, as yours has, so I doubt you have any claim against VW for this latest problem.

Golf DSG transmission problems

Answered by CarsGuide 20 May 2016

You have a reasonable claim against VW to have the gearbox replaced free of charge. The DSG gearbox is known to be troublesome and yours has a history of malfunctioning. Because the car is seven years old and VW isn’t very forthcoming on customer issues you will have to suit up and take them on, but the DSG transmission is a dud and the company knows it, and they should come clean and fix cars like yours that are having problems. If you can’t get anywhere with VW and give up, try an independent VW specialist mechanic.

Mk6 VW Golf extended warranty

Answered by CarsGuide 20 Jun 2014

It really comes down to how confident you are that the car will get through another 10,000 km, the distance your wife would be expected to drive in the next two years. The chances of having a major meltdown in such a new car having done very few kilometres are pretty slim and I wouldn't be buying the extended warranty. But having the extra cover can be comforting if you're not sure.
