Weighing in at $135,600, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid sits between the entry-level Cayenne and more performance-focused Cayenne S.

This car manages to combine impressive performance with miserly fuel economy thanks to the combination of a 3.0-litre single turbo V6 petrol engine and an electric motor (combined output 340kW/700Nm). Specifically, 0-100km/h in 5.0sec and claimed fuel economy for the combined (ADR 81/02 - urban, extra-urban) cycle of just 3.4L/100 km (emitting only 78g/km of C02 in the process).

All models now feature an eight-speed ā€˜shift-by-wire’ ā€˜Tiptronic S’ auto transmission, with drive going to all four wheels courtesy of Porsche’s ā€˜Active Traction Management’ system.

As you’d expect in this part of the market the standard equipment list is solid, with the Cayenne E-Hybrid featuring partial leather trim, cruise control, LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail-lights, rain-sensing wipers, dual zone climate control, privacy glass, front seats with 14-way electric adjustment and memory settings, remote central locking with ā€˜Keyless Go’, the twin digital instrument displays, the ā€˜Sport Chrono’ package, multi-function sports steering wheel (with gearshift paddles), auto tailgate, ā€˜Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), 19-inch alloy wheels, and ā€˜Porsche Communication Management’ (PCM) with the 12.3-inch screen controlling nav, phone and audio (10-speaker, 150 watt and digital radio).

As a small boy James often sat on a lounge with three shoes in front of him, a ruler between the cushions, and a circular drinks tray in his hands. He would then play ā€˜drivings’, happily heading to destinations unknown for hours on end. He’s since owned many cars, raced a few, and driven (literally) thousands of them at all points of the globe. He’s steered around and across Australia multiple times, spent time as an advanced driving instructor, and had the opportunity to experience rare and valuable classics here and overseas. His time in motoring journalism has included stints at national and international titles including Motor, Wheels and TopGear, and when asked to nominate a career highlight, James says interviewing industry legend Gordon Murray, in the paddock at the 1989 Australian Formula One Grand Prix was amazing, especially as Murray waived away a hovering Ayrton Senna to complete the conversation. As Deputy Editor, James manages everything from sub-editing to back-end contentĀ while creating written and video product reviews.
